Here is the first official screen shot of the MeeGo UI, its looking much nicer than previous pics that we have seen, MeeGo offers a completely skin-able UI to the hardware manufacturer.

HTC Sense Will Appear On Windows Phone 7 (Kinda)

HTC's Drew Bamford told Forbes that Sense UI will still appear in the company's Windows Phone 7 creations, and believes it will live on in Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) as well.

"Microsoft has taken firmer control of the core experience," 

acknowledged Bamford, who added that Sense wouldn't be fully integrated into WP7 phones, but that HTC would "augment" the Microsoft experience with as-yet-undisclosed functionality of its own.

MeeGo Handset Project Day 1 is Here

MeeGo is now officially available for handsets, this is a developer release mainly but the early UI is in place and yes N900 owners you will be getting a very good version eventually of it.

MeeGo For Tablets Demo

What you are about to see is a demo of the MeeGo OS created by Nokia and Intel and will soon be available on laptops, net-books, tablets and yes mobiles.

The rich UI is quite frankly amazing, its fluid and easy to understand, I can see change coming down the track from a mile away, bye bye Win7, possible even bye bye Mac OS as the choice OS for users.

Major Privacy Flaw With HTC Sense OS

A report coming out today from Boy Genius Report is claiming and proving that the HTC Sense randomly creates Jpg files of websites you have visited and saves them to the phones system folders.

Whats the problem, is that even if you format the entire phone back to factory defaults these images remain on the phone, so if you sold your phone these images would be visibleto anyone who knows their way around HTC Sense.

An image could be of your internet banking statement for example.

HTC will probably move quickly on this with a patch, lets hope so anyway.

Nice comparison by Engadget show the main players devices and how they stack up against each other, the new iPhone 4 comes out well but surprising the new N8 running Symbian ^3 comes out very well.

Apple iPhone 4 FaceTime Demo

Here's a quick demo of FaceTime on the new iPhone4 soon to be released. I dont know if its just me but I have been using video calls for some time on my S60 phones and video calling via GTalk, Yahoo, Skype and more on my N900, this just seems old hat....

Unboxing And Demo - Samsung Wave

Here is a good video of Matt from Tracy & Matt's blog.  The Samsung Wave or otherwise known as S8500 is Samsung first phone to run their new Bada OS.  This phone features a 3.3" Super Amoled screen which really looks better than anything else on the market.

Acer netbooks and tablets to run MeeGo

Intel's just released its Computex press release, which beyond detailing its new Oak Trail and Canoe Lakeplatforms, reveals that Acer is about to take a bite out of MeeGo. 


Acer CEO Gianfranco Lanci is quoted saying that the company plans to run MeeGo on its future Atom-based tablets and netbooks. There's no word on using the Intel / Nokia OS on its phones, but we'll be keeping an ear to the ground on that. 


Acer was rumored to launch Chrome OS netbooks at the show, but now they seem to have ditched that and gone with Nokia and Intel's new OS, looks good for MeeGo

Nokia updates N900 to version 1.2 in UK, closes door on MeeGo

You've overclocked it and hacked it to run OS X and Android, now you can return your N900 to its native Maemo 5 OS with the launch of a version 1.2 software update. The V10.2010.19-1 bump now available in the UK (global on Wednesday) packs several enhancements including face-to-face video calling, improved Ovi Maps, and a better email experience with bundled Facebook IM Chat and the ability to accept or decline event invitations from the inbox. You'll also see a number of new games when the Ovi Store switches over on Thursday.

And after much speculation, Nokia's also admitting that MeeGo will not be officially supported on the N900 once the Intel / Nokia OS is device ready. Nokia will continue to support the core Maemo OS, however, as demonstrated by today's update. Regardless, we're sure that the N900's active fan-base will deliver a MeeGo update outside of official channels, especially since the N900 is already being used as a platform for ARM-based MeeGo development.

Samsung Wave brings Bada to Europe today, everyone else told to wait

Samsung's Wave (otherwise known as the 8500) may not be coming to Vodafone UK until June 1st, but it's available somewhere in Europe starting today. According to a new release from the outfit (seen in full after the break), today marks the first day in which its first Bada-equipped smartphone is available in Europe, with Germany, France and the UK mentioned in particular. We're also told that the "complete Bada SDK 1.0.0 will be available for download shortly," and while pricing details weren't discussed, the Wave should ride to Southeast Asia, China, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America in short order.

Android 2.2 Froyo Officially Announced

No huge surprises here, but Google just announced Android 2.2 "Froyo" at I/O, and the big addition is a just-in-time compiler, which brings a 2-5x speed boost to the system. There are also 20 new enterprise features, including better Exchange integration and device administration APIs, as well as a new device backup app that'll let you transfer personal data to a new device.

Android 2.2 also features a new cloud-to-device messaging API that Google called "much more than a push notification service designed to make up for a lack of basic features like multitasking," and of course, WiFi tethering which was used to get a WiFi iPad online during the demo to great cheers. Google also demoed a new JavaScript engine in the Android browser, which is billed as "the world's fastest web browser," and a Chrome browser plugin that allows you to send directions from Maps on your desktop directly to your phone.
