Light Hack. Light graffiti with the Nokia N900

Amazing technology showcase from Nokia, it shows how a hacked can of spray paint will let you use your Nokia N900 to create spectacular light displays

Lady Bna-nas, Madcheeze and Introcept are street artists from Australia. But for the 2009 Push N900 competition, they were known as the Light Hack Crew. They love graffiti but they also share a passion for technology. So they created an electronic spray can and hooked it up to a Nokia N900. The spray can creates an LED light source and the hacked N900 captures the beautiful time-lapse images. See for yourself.

Below is a video of a really great looking work in progress app from the devs at Nokia.  Despite the device being camouflaged the slide down keyboard is clearly an N900.

Feature - MaStory Blogging App For N900

MaStory is a great application for mobile blogging on the N900, it truely is fully featured. You can created scheduled blogs, synch you Flickr, Picassa and other photo accounts to allow you to draw on the wealth of images on the web.

You can easily insert html tags to make your posts look perfect, this post was done using the application itself.

It's available now for some time, check it out in the application manager.

Angry Birds New Level Packs On N900 Available

Angry Birds level packs 2 and 3 are now available on the Nokia OVI store, see screenshots for new interface of the game below.

Peer To Peer Gaming, Nexus One, N900 and Laptop

Qualcomm demonstrates a simple three-player peer-to-peer title with a Nexus One (over Bluetooth), a Nokia N900 (over WiFi) and a Dell Latitude laptop all playing the same synchronous game.

John from Technobuffalo was right in the middle of an overview of the mysterious N9 or N8 Slider, what ever your preference and it kills itself.

For those of you who slammed Nokia for not having a Kill Switch, looks like they just got one.

Nokia N9 Caught On Video

The prototype of what is being called the N9 is spotted here on video by Negri Electronics. It looks to be running stock Symbian^3 and while the design overall is quite nice it still looks a bit rough around the edges so possible requires a few more months work, perhaps a Christmas release ?

Bring Gravity To Nokia N900 Petition

Following on from a feature I did on Mobileways super application Gravity which you can read here, I think its about time that Mobileways bring Gravity to the Nokia N900.  To date I think they have not developed for the N900 simply because of the smaller user base, so I have decided to setup a petition to bring Gravity to the N900.

I paid for Gravity on my S60 device, one of only two apps I have ever paid for and it was a revelation, its the most complete Twitter/Facebook/Foursquare and now Flickr application there is.

First look at MeeGo v1.0 netbook operating system

MeeGo Linux is a custom operating system designed for netbooks, smartphones, and other internet-connected devices. Today MeeGo v1.0 was released, and this video provides an overview of some of the features of the operating system.

You've seen it teased, and now it's time to shelve whatever you had planned for this evening (or morning, depending on your current coordinates) and slap the first bona fide 1.x MeeGo release onto whatever device you've got handy. 

Nokia updates N900 to version 1.2 in UK, closes door on MeeGo

You've overclocked it and hacked it to run OS X and Android, now you can return your N900 to its native Maemo 5 OS with the launch of a version 1.2 software update. The V10.2010.19-1 bump now available in the UK (global on Wednesday) packs several enhancements including face-to-face video calling, improved Ovi Maps, and a better email experience with bundled Facebook IM Chat and the ability to accept or decline event invitations from the inbox. You'll also see a number of new games when the Ovi Store switches over on Thursday.

And after much speculation, Nokia's also admitting that MeeGo will not be officially supported on the N900 once the Intel / Nokia OS is device ready. Nokia will continue to support the core Maemo OS, however, as demonstrated by today's update. Regardless, we're sure that the N900's active fan-base will deliver a MeeGo update outside of official channels, especially since the N900 is already being used as a platform for ARM-based MeeGo development.

Android on Nokia N900 – Video demo

Maemo5 still is much nice OS to look at in my view.

Opera Mini 10 browser released for Nokia N900

The Opera Mini 10 browser got released today for the Maemo devices such as the Nokia N900.This Maemo version of Opera Mobile 10 was created as a hobby project by a small team of developers in their spare time. In total, about 6 man-weeks were spent on creating the release. It’s worth pointing out that this is not an officially-supported release. As such, it has not undergone the usual quality assurance processes, and at times may not feel as polished or complete as an official release. This also means that there may never be a “final” release of Opera Mobile 10 for Maemo devices, since it’s just that much more fun to add shiny new features rather than fixing boring old bugs.

There are a number of known issues with this build, listed below:

• Adobe Flash and other plugins are not supported.
• Screen tearing may be visible when panning, especially in portrait mode. We expect to fix this in a future update.
• The built-in on-screen keyboard is not supported. Use the physical keyboard or the on screen keyboard included with Opera Mobile.
• There is no power management support. In practice this means that if you open a page with animations and leave Opera running, you will soon be using a payphone. Power is drained even when Opera is running in the background and/or the screen is turned off.
• If you set Opera as the default browser, for example by installing the Browser Switchboard, an extra empty tab will get opened every time you open a link from an external application.

Download and install Opera Mobile 10 on your Nokia N800/N810/N900 using the phone’s default browser.

Opera Mini 5 running on Nokia N900

The latest version of Opera Mini gets demoed inside a micro-emulator on the Nokia N900.  As this is an emulator I doubt it will replace the excellent standard N900 browser or the might Firefox browser, but it's good to have options.

Barriosquare - a foursquare app for Nokia N900

Mark from TheNokiaBlog demo's a foursquare application on the Nokia N900 called Barriosquare, looks to work quite well, the UI is not quite as nice as Gravity on Symbian 5th but looks good all the same.
